About Olesia

Olesia Romanov is a Tel Aviv-based painter whose work is inspired by landscapes and the expressive spirit of Impressionism.

Art has always been part of Olesia’s life. She grew up in a family deeply connected to art: her mother taught art in Russia, and creativity was a natural part of everyday life at home.

Before pursuing painting professionally, Olesia spent years working in high-tech as an art director. Around ten years ago, her desire to grow as an independent artist led her to devote herself more fully to her own artistic practice.

Working in acrylic and oil, Olesia creates original paintings and commissioned works based on photographs. From 2019 to 2024, she ran her own gallery in Tel Aviv. Today, she presents her paintings at the Nachalat Binyamin artists’ fair, where she has been exhibiting for the past three years.

For Olesia, one of the most beautiful things about art is that no two people experience a painting in exactly the same way. A scene painted with a sense of joy might awaken nostalgia in someone else. The meaning is never entirely fixed; each viewer brings their own memories, emotions, and perspective.

Through her paintings, Olesia invites people to pause, look, and discover what a work of art means to them.

Acrylic or Oil?

Two techniques, two different ways to bring a painting to life.

Acrylic Painting

Rich colour, a fresh character and a shorter working time.

Acrylics are water-based paints that dry relatively quickly. They make it possible to create paintings full of colour and character, with clear brushstrokes and free compositions. Because they dry faster, the work can move along at a quicker pace.

  • Faster dryingCan suit you when it matters to finish the painting sooner, depending on how complex the work is.

  • Vivid colourWell suited to paintings with clear colours, strong contrasts and a fresh character.

  • Landscapes and a loose styleA good choice for landscapes, everyday scenes and compositions where the brushstrokes stay part of the painting’s character.

  • Flexible in styleAcrylics work for delicate or bold paintings alike, depending on the style and the artist’s choices.

Oil Painting

Depth of colour, soft transitions and room for fine detail.

Oil paints dry more slowly than acrylics, so the artist can keep working with the paint for longer, refining the transitions between tones and gradually building up layers and detail. They are especially suited to works where subtle nuances, a sense of depth and gradual colour transitions matter.

  • Soft colour transitionsThe longer working time makes it possible to blend tones and refine transitions.

  • Richness and depthLayers, textures and complex relationships between tones can be built up.

  • Suited to detailed workCan suit portraits, complex compositions and paintings that call for delicate work on detail.

  • Time to refine and reflectSlow drying lets the painting be worked on over a longer period, following the artist’s process.
